The world of art has always been a space for creative expression, and photography is one of the most accessible forms of it. Photography allows people to capture moments, emotions, and perspectives and share them with others. However, it is no secret that the arts industry can be exclusive and hard to navigate, especially for neurodiverse individuals. These individuals often face a variety of barriers that prevent them from accessing the best opportunities to showcase their talents, especially for those who have additional needs.
Promoting neurodiversity in the arts, particularly in photography, can have countless benefits. Neurodiversity encompasses natural variations in the human brain, such as differences in perception, expression and social processing. These variations bring a unique perspective to the arts and can contribute to more diverse and meaningful works. Therefore, it is essential to support neurodiverse artists and provide them with equal opportunities to showcase their skills and talents.
One way to support neurodiverse artists in Newcastle is to attend exhibitions such as the Wey Aye Lego Man photography exhibition hosted by Ouseburn Farm. The exhibition features a delightful collection of Lego man themed photographs by 35 neurodiverse artists, showcasing their unique perspectives through Lego and the local region. This event is a great way to experience the North East through a different lens and appreciate the talents of neurodiverse individuals.

Moreover, the Wey Aye Lego Man photography exhibition promotes a sense of community and inclusion. It is an excellent opportunity to connect with interesting people and support local artists. By attending this exhibition, we can help create a more inclusive arts industry that celebrates diversity and creativity.

The Wey Aye Lego Man Photography Exhibition is hosted by Ouseburn Farm and will run from the 21st to the 29th of April 2023. The exhibition kicks off with an Interactive Art Experience and Opening Party on Friday 21st April from 5 pm to 8 pm. The opening party will include a silent auction of all the artists photographs, live graffiti art by Mark Shields, Lego replicas of Newcastle landmarks by Steve Mayes, and The Lord Mayor of Newcastle will be the guest of honour. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to Cancer Connections.
You can join in the fun by posting your own Lego Man photos on social media using the hashtag #weyayelegoman – Search this hashtag to see the Lego man photographs other people have been posting.

In conclusion, promoting neurodiversity in the arts is essential, and photography is a perfect medium for it. The Wey Aye Lego Man photography exhibition is an excellent example of how we can support and celebrate the talents of neurodiverse individuals. By attending events like this, we can help create a more inclusive and diverse arts industry, where all kinds of artists can access the same opportunities to showcase their work.

The Wey Aye Lego Man 2023 exhibition contributed £750 to the local charity Cancer Connections through the sale of all the photographs featured in the exhibition.
