Wey Aye for Cancer Connections: A celebration of creativity and diversity in the North East of England

Cancer is a disease that affects many people, and it can be difficult to cope with both physically and emotionally. That’s where Cancer Connections comes in – a charity based in the North East of England that supports individuals and their families who are affected by cancer. And this Friday, the 21st of April, we are proud to be donating all proceeds from the Wey Aye Lego Man event at Ouseburn Farm, Newcastle, to Cancer Connections to help them continue with the valuable work they do.

Cancer Connections provides assistance to various organisations, including New Beginnings North East Ltd, which offers support to adults with learning disabilities who live independently in their own homes. Coping with cancer can be particularly difficult for the people we support because they can find it challenging to adjust to all the changes in their routines.

Cancer Connections works closely with New Beginnings NE Ltd to provide information and guidance to individuals who are dealing with cancer. They offer support through a range of services, including counselling, complementary therapies, and group activities. They also provide practical support such as transportation to appointments and help with shopping.

At the heart of Cancer Connections is a community of people who understand what it’s like to live with cancer. They offer a welcoming, safe space where individuals can share their experiences and receive emotional support. For many people, Cancer Connections is a lifeline – a place where they can feel less alone and more empowered to deal with their illness.

The Wey Aye Lego Man exhibition features a delightful collection of Lego man themed photographs by 35 local artists who are all neurodiverse. By attending this exhibition, we can help support the local community and create greater diversity in the arts. The exhibition has already attracted a lot of attention, and we are delighted to be able to donate all the proceeds from the silent auction to Cancer Connections.

The opening party will include a silent auction of all the artists photographs, live graffiti art, Lego replicas of Newcastle landmarks by Steve Mayes, and The Lord Mayor of Newcastle will be the guest of honour. It’s a chance to have fun, see some amazing Lego art, and make a difference in the lives of people affected by cancer. Together, we can help Cancer Connections continue to provide their vital services to those who need them most.
