Cake decorating is more than just baking and icing; it’s an art form that can create stunning, jaw-dropping cakes that are almost too beautiful to eat. Samantha Carruthers, the talented cake designer behind Lime in de Coconut Cakes, is a perfect example of this. Her latest masterpiece, a Lego Man head cake made for the opening of the Wey Aye Lego Man Photography Exhibition, was a perfect addition to this unforgettable celebration of neurodiverse photography.

The Lego-shaped head was a masterpiece, flawlessly covered in delicious yellow fondant. The addition of a cheeky little pink tongue made the cake even more delightful. From the impeccably placed black fondant for the eyes to the flawless yellow fondant that captured the iconic Lego color, every detail of the cake exuded perfection.

It was evident that Sam had dedicated a great deal of time and effort into crafting this mouth-watering masterpiece, and the end result was truly spectacular. She even made some rainbow coloured cupcakes and decorated them with tasty little Lego bricks.
Sam is no stranger to creating show-stopping cakes. Her Instagram page is a testament to her talent, featuring a plethora of stunning designs that showcase her versatility as a cake designer. From intricately detailed floral arrangements to whimsical rainbow creations, Sam has shown time and time again that she isn’t afraid of a challenge and can bring to life many different themes and designs.

What makes Sam’s work even more impressive is the fact that she is self-taught. She has spent countless hours practicing and perfecting her craft, and her hard work has certainly paid off. Her cakes not only look amazing but taste delicious too, with flavors ranging from classic vanilla to decadent chocolate and everything in between.

As for the Wey Aye Lego Man Opening Party, Sam’s Lego Man cake stole the show. It was the perfect centerpiece for the event, and everyone who attended couldn’t help but be impressed by Sam’s work. It was truly a spectacular creation and a testament to her incredible talent.
Sam’s Lego Man head cake is just the latest example of her amazing work as a cake designer. Her Instagram page is filled with other incredible cakes, each one more impressive than the last. If you’re ever in need of a show-stopping cake for your event, Sam is the person to call. She truly is a master of her craft and an inspiration to anyone who loves spectacular cake designs.

Sam’s success is a reminder to me that being neurodivergent isn’t an obstacle to overcome, but a strength to celebrate. By embracing our neurodiversity we can unlock unique perspectives and talents that can benefit not only ourselves, but also the world around us.
So, here’s to Sam – a talented artist, a neurodiverse superstar, and an inspiration to us all. Keep creating, keep innovating, and keep breaking down those barriers. Next stop; The Great British Bake Off!

Perhaps you know Sam and would like to join me in encouraging her to apply for Season 15 of the Bake Off competition in 2024? Although the application process won’t open until January 2024, the entry rules are available to view now. This gives anyone considering entering ample time to practice and prepare, so they can confidently apply at the start of the new year. No pressure though, I understand that appearing on TV isn’t everyone’s idea of fun.

However, as a neurodiverse Geordie baker, applying for the competition not only gives you a chance to showcase your baking skills, but also to represent the North East and neurodiverse individuals everywhere. Just based on these reasons alone, the casting producers will surely shortlist you.
Here are a few Geordie themed cake ideas to help inspire you: Angel of the North Cake, Brown Ale Cupcakes, Geordie Shore Tart, Baked Fog’laska on the Tyne, Wey Aye Lemon Pie and Boozy Bigg Market Brownies. And how about a Neuro-nilla Layer Cake. All I ask is that you give me a signed copy of your first published recipe book after winning the show! 😇 Best of Luck 🤞
