Rachel Lloyd, Department Manager at New Beginnings NE Ltd
At New Beginnings we believe in the indomitable spirit of our residents and the unwavering dedication of our staff. Today, we want to share a heartwarming and inspiring story that exemplifies the resilience of the human spirit and the power of teamwork.
Meet Janice, a vibrant and adventurous individual who, up until October 2022, led an active and mobile lifestyle. However, life took an unexpected turn when she experienced a stroke, leaving her unable to move independently. Janice’s journey to regaining her independence was challenging, but with the support of our compassionate staff, she triumphed over adversity.

After her stroke, Janice spent three months in the hospital, hoping for a smooth transition back home. Unfortunately, her discharge proved problematic, and she didn’t receive the comprehensive care and support she needed from the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT). But our team at New Beginnings was determined to make a difference in Janice’s life.
Facing the challenge head-on, our staff rallied around Janice, providing the necessary hoisting and two-to-one staffing she required. They understood the significance of small victories and knew that every step towards independence mattered.

One of the primary challenges Janice faced was the issue with her wheelchair. The initial wheelchair she received was not suitable for her needs, which confined her to only transferring between her bed and chair. It was a frustrating time for Janice, who yearned to venture outside and experience the world beyond her room.

But where there is a will, there is a way, and our staff, particularly Ashleigh Dennison, stepped up to make a remarkable difference. Ashleigh took it upon herself to research and find a suitable ramp online that would enable Janice to access the outside world once again. The dedication and determination of our staff to improve the lives of our residents truly know no bounds.
Despite facing delays with the supplier, the team’s unwavering commitment finally paid off. On the 14th of July, we received the much-awaited ramp. The next day, on the 15th of July, something magical happened – Janice was supported out of the house for the first time in three months. It was a moment of triumph, not just for Janice but also for the entire staff team.
Ashleigh Dennison, Senior Team Leader at New Beginnings NE Ltd

Reflecting on this heartwarming journey, Ashleigh Dennison shares, “The past 10 months have been some of the most challenging of my time at New Beginnings; Janice was let down repeatedly by multi-disciplinary agencies and I’m just grateful she has a strong, caring staff team around her, determined to make her voice count. I’m relieved knowing Janice can go back to experiencing the activities she loved, such as theatre shows and live beyond the walls of her bungalow”.
Janice’s remarkable progress would not have been possible without the unwavering support and dedication of our entire team. Their collaborative effort and compassion turned what seemed like an insurmountable challenge into a moment of celebration.
As Janice continues her journey to recovery, we at New Beginnings stand proudly beside her, cheering her on every step of the way. This heartwarming story is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the transformative power of teamwork.

At New Beginnings, our mission is to create a nurturing and supportive environment where residents like Janice can flourish and live life to the fullest. Together, we celebrate every small victory and demonstrate that with love, care, and a united team, anything is possible.
Join us in celebrating Janice’s courage and the dedication of our incredible staff as we continue to foster a community where everyone feels valued, supported, and empowered. Remember, together we can overcome any obstacle, and together we can create a brighter, more compassionate world.
